Leaving Queenstown for Te Anu

We are leaving Wanaka this morning.  We have loved finding the Southern Star Christian radio station here at 67.7 and also at 69.0. This morning they was a whole program about giving Operation Christmas child boxes and what to pack. There was also a mention of activities at a local Baptist Church. We drove back to Queenstown this morning and took the time to see some things we had driven by before.

New Zealand makes good use of hydroelectric power.  We in the central Otega region and stopped to see the Roaring Meg Gap.  The crystal green water from Lake Wakatipu cuts through cliffs of angled rock full of rapids.

The next place we stopped was the famous, original, Kawarau Bungy Center. From the road, you can see the bridge, but nothing else.  After

driving by the historic bridge several times, we stopped this morning to see it.  All you see from the road is a little concrete entrance, but through the doors you discover a huge center with a ramp spiraling down to the snack bar, gift shop and diving platforms.  There is a huge screen on the wall where you can watch the action live as jumpers leap off the bridge.

Tom had picked a restaurant for lunch that he had passed before in Queenstown. This was a place where there was always a line out the door and jazzy music playing.  So we had a couple of delicious burgers at FergBurger, with the eclectic crowd of tourist and locals.  Then we stopped by the airport to exchange our Hertz wireless hot spot and I got this picture of some cool sculpture out front.

Tonight we are staying in probably the most interesting Bed and Breakfast of all.  The Te Anu Lodge was transported from Knightcap to Te Anu years ago.  When it was built in the 1920s, it was a Catholic Convent, and has now been restored beautifully in Fiordland, with all the original woodwork, stairs and stained glass.
