Heading West

Morning started early for us on Sunday as we headed to the airport at 5:45 AM to catch our flight to Los Angeles, CA on the way to Tahiti in the French Polynesian islands.  Passports in hand, we checked our small suitcases, passed through security and flew out on Delta.

Of course, the Wake County area is beautiful with Falls Lake and green trees everywhere.  It always amazes me to see how the landscape changes as you fly west.  Leaving the green Southeast and crossing the muddy winding Mississippi, the view looks like dessert.  We saw Salt Lake City from the air, followed by the Rocky Mountains and just hoped that the pilot could find the airport as we flew into the cloud bank that hid LA.

We saw the most amazing soft sculpture in the airport there, made of looped string suspended for two stories.  For Rick Riordan fans, it reminded me of the weaving Annabeth Chase did to escape from Arachne.

Since we were flying Air Tahiti onward, we had to find the international terminal at LAX, and check in again.

I can recommend Air Tahiti for their large clean jet, the good service, they actually served us two real meals during the 8 hour trip, plus I got to watch the movie Maleficent, and wore my blindfold for a nap.  When we finally made it to the reception area at the hotel, it was 22 hours of travel and we fell into bed.
