Un autre jour au paradis

We have woken both mornings to sweet birdsong.  There were probably a hundred of these little birds greeting the sun on a large shrub just outside our balcony.  Right after I took this shot, they all took flight and it was quite a bevy swooping into the air.

Linda, from Berlin, said that Americans were so friendly!

Today was our day to go out in the dive boat for some fish scenery.  It was an interesting trip - one of the other snorkelers was a young woman from Germany who was in Tahiti to improve her French.  Linda worked in a bank in Berlin.  She said that Americans were so friendly - but of course, she had been talking to Tom.

There were also a father and son SCUBA diving.  The father was in the military (military police) and he had a four year assignment in Tahiti.  He told us that the Tahitians were actually French citizens.
The snorkeling was great.  The dive boat took us out to where there were a couple of wrecks near a coral bank.  There were lots of large sea anemones with large hot pink polyps including their little communities of clown fish.  These clown fish were not orange though, they were black with blue neon vertical strips.  We also saw lots of shiny black sea urchins and a large corral outcropping covered with purple blooms.  The fist were amazing; such wonderful colors.  God had a really good time painting these.  We saw dark green puffer fish covered in white pokadots, queen trigger fish all pink and turquoise, bright yellow spade fish, black and silver angel fish and sergeant majors.  We also saw an amazing fish that used most of the colors.  It was yellow with black stripes but it's head was blue with pink stripes.

From the coral area, the water looked beautiful bright aquamarine.  It was sunny and the water was very clear.  We wore wet suits as our flotation devices (new to me) and had very long flippers for ease of movement in the water.

Back on the land, we enjoyed the sun setting; it was a firey ball illuminating Moorea.

At dinner Tom was delighted to get a large glass of ice, the French do not use much ice and the waitresses think we are funny because we like it so much.

There was a wedding set up on the beach right below our balcony, so after dinner we enjoyed their concert of ukelele music and Tahitian singing.
What a great day.
